The Northern Cape, a prime
destination for nature lovers, is renowned for its southern Kalahari scenery and Richtersveld desert. It is home to the world's first people', the San/Bushmen, the Griqua and the Nama.
The Northern Cape region is also home to six national parks: the Kgalagadi Transfrontier; Richtersveld; Vallbos; Namaqua; Tankwa-Karoo and Augrabies Falls. Augrabies Falls is the site of the sixth highest waterfall in the world.
Kimberley boasts the Big Hole and the Diamond Mine Museum, one of the most famous diamond mining sites in the world.

The Northern Cape is made up of a predominantly semi-desert climate which is mainly dry and hot. Temperatures in the summer are often well above 40 degrees Celsius making it less pleasant to travel than other areas of South Africa.
